Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
My students are enrolled in a low-incidence special education program in the middle of Chicago. They are bright, loving kids who require extra help and resources to learn life skills.
They benefit so much from hands-on materials to practice the skills that they need to be successful in the real world, such as vocational practice, safety awareness, and social skills.
My students have a variety of interests and level of abilities, and we try to meet every kid at their level to ensure they are getting the individualized help that they need. This requires a ton of different materials, stations, and appliances. Most of my students come from low-income neighborhoods in the middle of the city, and our school is not able to fund all of the diverse needs of our program. This group of kids is always ready to work hard and try their best, and they would benefit so much from your support!
My Project
I was recently granted an empty classroom to build an individualized life skills classroom for our students who have a variety of disabilities at the high school level. This technology will be used to allow my students ways to engage with the material, have free time, or practice independent work. The printer will also be used in my classroom to print various activities, visuals, and resources to be used around the room.
With these technology materials, my students will be able to learn and practice these essential life skills that don't come as easily to them as they do to the rest of the world.
Being in such a large district in the middle of Chicago, it makes it very difficult to receive enough funding to get all of the materials we need on a regular basis. Thank you in advance for your kind and generous support to help our students with advanced needs be successful in school and in life!
