My students are from a large, urban community that welcomes families from all over the globe. Our school is defined by the diversity of linguistics, background knowledge, prior experiences and culture of our students and families. We seek to enable students to be community leaders, cultural ambassadors, and college graduates. We are a Title I school in a largely immigrant community. I have twenty-four students in my classroom. Free breakfast and free lunch are available to every child in our building each day.
My students are a community of empathetic, enthusiastic, learners ready to engage in problem-solving and share their perspectives on the world.
They would benefit from a variety of classroom resources to continue their success as we end our school year together. This year has presented many changes. We started the school year with everyone learning online, have transitioned to some students learning in-person while the rest learn at, and finally one more wave of transition as more students join the in-person learners in our hybrid classroom. Despite these challenges, we have many successes. As we move to summer, we want to continue those successes with supplies to stimulate students' curiosity and love of learning!
My Project
This year has seen so many changes, and with that students that still have a love of learning. Even though I see them everyday - either in the classroom with me or in our google meets, I miss my students and they miss the hands-on experiences they have in the classroom! We're all suffering from WAY too much screen time, so I would like to supply them with some fun, non-screen activities that will keep them connected to school and engaged in all of the new learning they have done as we move into the summer.
I have picked out high interest fiction and nonfiction books that my will remind my students of our classroom library and keep them reading, a book of science projects that will allow them to continue to be creative and investigate the world around them, and math cards to continue their problems solving practice through games.
