Help me give my students affirmation books they can use everyday to remind and encourage them that they are each special, smart and can achieve anything they dream of.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students live on the south side of Chicago, where many are affected by the senseless violence that stricken our community. These conditions make the neighborhood unsafe for our students to comfortably live and play. Our school is the one place that they feel safe.
Even though our students are faced with unfavorable conditions, they show resilience and the desire to come to school everyday, to learn what it takes to become productive members of their communities and society (Even virtually).
I am dedicated to ensuring that each and every child is equipped with social skills and support their emotional well being to build on their resilience to withstand the circumstances they are faced with daily as children.
My Project
Now more than ever children need to be told they are important and their lives matter. All students should be told and made to feel that they matter and encouraged to dream big, because they can be anything they dream of being. It is unfortunate that some students may never be told how special they are. Some children experience emotional and verbal abuse being told repeatedly that they are worthless. I aim to ensure every student knows that they are important and have a purpose in life and if no one cheers you on, you have to be your own biggest cheerleader.
What better way to teach students to believe in themselves and boost their confidence than by teaching them to use affirmations.
These books will be used for students to read daily affirmations to boost self esteem, believe in themselves and overcome negative thoughts and challenging situations.
I hope that through the use of these books our students will learn to use daily affirmations as a tool throughout their lives to remind them of their capabilities now and in the future as they navigate through the challenges of becoming productive citizens in their communities.
