Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Our students are all freshmen who are in biology class. They are living on the southeast side of Chicago and attending a neighborhood high school.
Over the course of their freshman year, the students grow a love for science!
We hope that their love continues as they go on to college and their future careers.
This project will help our students in the special education program and in the ELL program get access to a paper copy of the book, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.
My Project
Our biology team teaches cells through a HeLa cells focus. We have always used supplemental materials that help students learn the life of Henrietta Lacks. This year, we are teaching it using the biography written by Rebecca Scoot. We are using an e-book and audiobook for most students taking biology, but we want to provide a paper book to our students in our special education program and students in our ELL program. This will allow the students to write directly in the book with highlights and annotations. This will create the supports our students need.
