My Students
My students attend a public school in Chicago, Illinois. We are a Title I school, with 98% of students coming from low-income households. Crime, gangs, and poverty surround our campus. Inside the classroom, they feel safe and are eager to learn.

I want them to have the same resources that other school districts provide. They deserve this. They are smart, creative, caring, and love to learn.
My Project
Many of my students live in their isolated neighborhood and rarely leave. Our school is a few miles south of downtown Chicago, and some of these children have never been there. They need to learn about the rest of the world by manipulating objects, conducting experiments, and observing real-world science. Even if students are still learning from home, they will see everything projected onto their computer screen. I use a document camera and web camera to make sure all students have a front-row seat. These materials will fill them with wonder, help them understand what is happening in the world around them, and get them excited about STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). We don’t have a science textbook, but I know teaching with these materials is better anyway! My students will use these manipulatives to learn about the following: animals, plants, insects, force/motion, the solar system, and matter. In addition, they will learn about the scientific method, exploring these concepts while going through this investigative process. These materials will help students visualize the world around them, keep them engaged, and get them excited to learn more.
