This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students are diverse learners who come from low income backgrounds. Many of them suffer with a range of disabilities from emotional disabilities, learning disabilities, sensory issues, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Most of them receive free or reduced price lunch and live in the community where there is a heavy presence of dilapidated homes. But they do not allow these circumstances to determine their future. They come to school each day with open minds and a willingness to learn.
They've created goals to help them cope with negative behaviors.
These goals help them think about their behaviors and how they can use strategies to cope when faced with negative events. They utilize a variety of behavior strategies that help them manage their behaviors when they are faced with stressful situations. They work hard to manage their behaviors in different learning environments throughout the school.
Although learning can be challenging for many of them, they continue to apply previously learned academic skills to help them have positive learning outcomes. These students have a willingness to learn although they face challenges outside of the classroom.
My students and their families have been gravely affected by COVID-19. They were forced to learn from home virtually for almost an entire year. Now they are returning to a hybrid learning schedule.
They needs desk shields as PPE to help keep them safe during hybrid learning.
In a world where COVID-19 is unpredictable, my students would feel safe and at ease while learning inside the classroom. These desk shields will provide my students the opportunity to enter a learning environment with less worries about the possibility of contracting COVID-19 and more motivation to learn.
