My Students

My students attend school in the heart of Missouri. One hundred percent of our students participate in the free and reduced-price meal program. Our students come from diverse ethnic backgrounds and encounter various daily challenges that include: unemployment, incarceration, homelessness, hunger, and poverty.

My prekindergarten students are inquisitive and eager to learn!

They enjoy singing and participating in activities that involve building and actively discovering with their classmates. I want all of my students to feel safe while having fun, active, and multi-sensory experience in school!

My Project

Stereotypical roles of gender start early and can lead to gender-differentiated skills and behavior throughout life. I hope to change that for all the young students in our school, but especially our girls!

Inspiring Future STEM Leaders focuses on STEM developmentally appropriate hands-on activities and real-world learning creating engaging experiences that will bring out everyone's inner scientist!

This project emphasizes the innovation, excitement, and challenges of these career fields, all the while spotlighting high-achieving females and minorities in the fields of math and science. The book, More Than a Princess, where the female minority character explores STEM careers will be read and discussed.

Four fun and relatable themed boxes representing paleontology, engineering, animal science, and wildlife conservation will be designed with these requested resources and placed in our school library that can be checked out by our teachers and utilized in their classrooms.

The engineering-themed box will include photographs of the top female designed buildings in the world (including architect Jeanna Gang's development of the Aqua Tower located in Chicago, Illinois) used for student inspiration in building with unfamiliar materials; interlocking plastic discs, building sticks, modeling clay, toothpicks, cocktail stirrer sticks, and toothpicks. Students will complete the five phases of architecture with the completion of their own building projects.

The paleontology-themed box will spotlight the careers of paleontologists like Myria Perez. It will include picture book biographies of Mary Anning and Mary Leakey, celebrating these important female scientists. A rock and fossil kit, My Book of Rocks and Minerals: Things to Find, Collect, and Treasure, dinosaur excavation kit, take apart dinosaur toys with a drill, along with ideas and materials to create a student-run dinosaur museum.

IF seeds of diversity and representation in STEM are cultivated in our students lives, THEN confidence to choose from a full range of careers will result!
