I teach at a Title I school where the poverty level is high and 100% of students receive free meals for breakfast and lunch. You would never know this because my students always come in happy and ready to learn. My students have ALL gone from being virtual learners to face-to-face learners. Everyday my students arrive excited to be at school.
Each student has an inner strength and the desire to learn that helps them push forward and motivates them to achieve more.
My students started kindergarten at various academic levels and with little to no English. The majority of my students have no prior school experience.
I have high expectations for my kindergarten students and given the tools and opportunity they will reach their goal.
My Project
Recess is an important part of a student's day at school. It affects their mental and physical well being. The materials in this project allow students to entertain themselves when they go outside. They will be able to use the chalk, play doh, and soccer balls by themselves or with friends, but they can remain socially distant.
This project will bring the fun back to recess for my kindergarten students at a time when COVID-19 has changed how they can spend their free time.
They currently have so many restrictions during recess and teachers are constantly reminding them to spread out because they are too close.
This project will allow students to feel that they are playing together while staying socially distant. Since there are times we are unable to go outside, the cushions will provide students with alternative seating during recess.
