Our school is full of energetic, rambunctious kids that are ready to learn! Unfortunately, many of them come from homes that live under the poverty line. This affects their home life, their school life, and their exposure to things that are different from their "norm." Many of our students need direct and explicit instruction on how to manage their emotions and to make good choices with their behavior. Utilizing the PBIS program, they are rewarded for making good choices and exhibiting good behaviors.
Our students work hard every day to be respectful, kind, responsible and safe.
Our staff loves to recognize students who use these traits to help promote positive choices and build character and confidence.
My Project
Our school implements PBIS, also known as Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports with the goal of helping our students learn how to choose positive behaviors. We know that just as we teach them math, reading, science and social studies, we must also teach them how to make good choices.
Using this program, our students are awarded points every time they use a positive behavior and those points turn into dollars.
A student can earn points for participating in class, helping a friend, being responsible, making a good choice, and more. Those points directly turn into dollars that they can then spend on rewards in school.
The goal of this project is to have containers to store all of the prizes in the school store. This would allow it to be neat and organized so the students can browse by dollar amount. By doing so, we are helping them build motivation to use those positive behaviors and to make good choices.
