Our school is full of energetic, rambunctious kids that are ready to learn! Unfortunately, many of them come from homes that live under the poverty line. This affects their home life, their school life, and their exposure to things that are different from their "norm." As their teacher, I want to give them everything they need to be successful not only in school, but socially, emotionally, and in their futures. Giving my kids' activities that engage them and make them want to learn is such a great way to keep their attention.
My Kindergarteners learn best when they are working hands-on, and this means providing them with a variety of materials to do so.
As a STEAM school, we try to work in science, engineering, and the arts into our everyday learning. This is a great opportunity to explore the world using different materials and resources.
My Project
We made a big switch a few years ago to become a certified STEM school and our students absolutely love it. They have really enjoyed learning more about engineering, how to code, how to problem solve and build something to fix a problem.
Our students go to STEM class once a week and they are always so excited to explore the different realms of STEM, that I want to incorporate it more into our classroom routine.
These materials will allow us to bring STEM and coding into our math and reading blocks so we can think about them in a new way! We will be able to use our code and go mice and the number mat to code the mice to go to the answer of an addition question. Or we can use it to spell out cvc words on the alphabet mat! The possibilities are endless.
