Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I teach at a Title I school where the poverty level is high and 100% of students receive free breakfast and lunch. You would never know this because my students always come in happy and ready to learn. My virtual students are just as excited every day when they join us virtually.
Each student has an inner strength and the desire to learn that helps them push forward and motivates them to achieve more.
My students started kindergarten at various academic levels and with little to no English. The majority of my students have no prior school experience.
I have high expectations for my kindergarten students and given the tools and opportunity they will reach their goal.
My Project
My students are bilingual kindergarten students and math is taught in English, a language they are in the process of learning. Math is a universal language and as they are developing their number sense they are slowly learning their second language.
Students come in with different levels of math knowledge and need hands on manipulatives to help them develop math fluency so that they may move on to 1st grade ready to continue learning and growing.
The 10 frames and number bonds will help them solidify their understanding and provide them with a strong foundation to continue building on. The hundred mats will help them as they learn to count to 100 using their whole body.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
