Help me give my students easily cleaned dollhouse furniture and poseable families for realistic play; as well as, photo ink and paper and laminating pouches for literacy activities.
This is my young students’ first school experience, and for most, their first prolonged separation from a parent, grandparent or guardian. All of my young students are considered academically at risk. They are also learning to interact with peers for the first time and are learning to do so with kindness and respect. Each of my students is an amazing kid with endless potential if given the opportunity.
What my young students have in abundance is a lot of love, an inquisitive nature and a genuine desire to learn.
We are a preschool in an urban, public school system. Our students receive free breakfast and lunch. To them, it doesn't matter what their lives are like at home, when they come to school they know it's a safe place that encourages them to use their imagination, allows them to explore, and helps train them to use their intellect in a fun and creative way.
My Project
My classroom is just like a family. We eat together, the kids nap in our class, we play, and we work. This year due to the pandemic, we spend even more time together in our classroom. I strive to make it a comfortable, safe, nuturing environment. As such, many of our work and play items were removed. This project will replace many of them with safe, easily cleaned alternatives. The dollhouse furniture and multicultural families will allow my young learners to engage in realistic play as they navigate their families through the rooms of the house.
STEM materials that stimulate critical thinking and encourage and demonstrate beginning engineering and basic science concepts are essential in my students' learning.
The roller coaster, design and drill, and play robot factory will introduce and encourage these skills as my students have fun creating and playing.
The photo paper and ink and laminate pouches will be used to record and preserve developmental milestone moments, in classroom visual aids, and classroom books and projects.
The support for my project will allow our school family to have so many more amazing experiences this unique school year!
