Help me give my students build a library of learning. It is said that children grow more with the increased amount of reading they do daily. My students are at a disadvantage and need more books.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are energetic, enthusiastic, and hardworking. They come from a low socioeconomic area of New York, and they never allow their circumstances to dictate how their days should go despite how most of their days start. This year I work with a group of students that need exposure to a more rigorous curriculum.
All of my students' access to meet the grade requirements started off shaky, but they are making gains every day.
Through project based work, they will have every opportunity to meet and exceed the requirements.
My Project
The libraries I am requesting is to provide my students with reading books that the school cannot purchase. I am at a lost in receiving funding to build a library for my readers. Most of our classroom library I purchase from my own resources and cannot see the students through to purchase more out of my own resources. I would like to use the requested libraries to expand my students reading opportunities and broaden their daily exposure to vocabulary.
In this neighborhood where my students visit the local library they are low in high interests readers and my students are forced to read from books that lack interests or is just not appealing to my readers.
I am hoping to present a reading opportunity to prepare them for the reading work they will be doing once they enter middle school. My school is out of funding to purchase and expand upon my current library and my students crave more books that interests them with the hopes of them reading daily.
