5 Year Olds = Laminator

My students need a laminating machine to help maintain the original state of their materials used on a daily basis in the classroom. This will save their parents money!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Materials are destroyed on a daily basis when they are in the hands of 5 year olds! Paper is used once & then children reach for another paper (wasting it). If paper materials are laminated using the machine, the laminated paper becomes reusable. It can then be written on with dry erase markers.

My students are the greatest co-workers!

I simply enjoy going to work and being apart of their lives each day. They amaze me from things that they say and also do on a daily basis. They attend public school and some have special needs. As a CTT special education teacher, I make sure all of my students interact with each other. I make sure to integrate students with special needs and general education students within the classroom. When other teachers come into the classroom they cannot tell which students have special needs. This is because all of my students are included in every activity and partnerships are mixed.

My Project

I have a few activities/projects already planned based around the laminating machine. Since i will be teaching Kindergarten, my students will be new to the school in September. My first project is a "favorite things place mat." I will have my students bring in pictures/flat objects or illustrate things they like (food, games, books etc.) Each student will have a paper with their name in the middle. They will then glue these photos/illustrations onto the paper around their name. This paper will be laminated (by me) to resemble a place mat. This will be taped to their desk where they work. During writing time they can refer to it to help them write personal narratives. In the past, when i asked my students to write about something real that happened in their life or something they enjoy doing, they draw a blank. This "favorite things place mat" will not only help their peers and myself get to know them, but also can be used to help them generate writing pieces.

Basically i have many projects planned around this laminating machine.

These projects will not only help my special needs students, but ESL and general education students as well. These projects will not only help with academics, but also social interaction. Students will take interest in their peers' place mats and begin talking/asking questions to each other. I plan to laminate name tags for trips and addition/subtraction charts to make them reusable when written on with dry erase markers.
