I teach 4th grade scholars in the Miami, Florida area in a difficult neighborhood of extreme poverty. My students are bright, intuitive, and have a drive to succeed no matter their circumstances. My students attend one of the lowest achieving schools with little access and resources to this technological age we live in.
Literacy is a love my students and I share, and as a reading teacher, I want to empower my students to foster a love of learning and the stamina to master reading!
My Project
Computers are 100% necessary in my classroom to complete district and school-wide lessons on the I-Ready reading database. My students participate in Differentiated instruction daily. As a necessary center, students must complete lessons on Iready. To do so, I need 7 working computers.
Due to increased class enrollment and computers beginning to break or crash half way through the year, I have students missing out on valuable work time because we do not have enough laptops in the classroom.
I feel this single laptop would make a world of a difference in my classroom, and allowing each student the necessary amount of time on a computer while at school. Many of my students do not have access to laptops or computers at home, so school is their only option to complete these necessary online assignment for success in 4th grade.
