My Students

My students are an excited young group of fourth graders! I have 24 students in my homeroom, and I teach about 98 students total.

Students come to my classroom for reading instruction for about 4 hours a week.

During this time, students receive whole-group instruction and small-group interventions.

COVID-19 has impacted learning over the past two years in primarily negative ways.

Now, I get to help them use my students’ amazing resiliency to catch up on skills that they may have missed out on during the last couple of years.

My Project

To help my students learn amid the pandemic, I could use a few different items.

One item I could use is stools for my horseshoe table.

Currently, students are having to carry their chairs across the room to fit everyone at the horseshoe table for small-group instruction. As one can imagine, it makes transitions between small-groups not as smooth as they could be. It would really help my classroom to have a set of five stools already at the horseshoe table that students can just come to, without having to carry their own chairs across the room. In an effort to bridge the gap due to the pandemic, I will need to maximize my small-group time with my students.

Some other items we could use are small group table dry erase dots, a document camera, Astrobright cardstock, laminating sheets, composition notebooks, mauvealus tape, clear Scotch tape, desk bands, fidget toys, Nerd Gum Balls, ink, an easel pad, and bookends.

All of these items will help students catch up on skills that they may have missed out on as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
