My Students
I am the Librarian at a Title I Elementary School in a small town in North Carolina. Over 80% of students attending my school qualify for free or reduced meals. Approximately half of the students speak English as a second language. They come to school eager to learn.
As the Librarian I have learned that many of my students only have access to books and technology at their school library or classroom My goal is to encourage each student to enjoy reading, research, creating, and learning .
My Project
Coding is a skill that exposes young students to critical thinking, logical thinking, and collaborative learning skills all at the same time. With the Code and Go Robot Mouse my students would have the opportunity to work in pairs or small groups to program their mice. The activity kits would provide them with an endless variety of mazes to create. Then they would need to code their mouse to complete the maze. Students learn math and logic concepts along with how to communicate with their peers. Also, if the internet goes out, they still work!.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
