This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Mindfulness is skill that is as necessary as math and reading for children in this day ant time. These books will be an amazing addition to our classroom library. We try to practice calming breathing techniques, deepen awareness of how our body feels and increase our understanding of each other on a daily basis, often through literature and role play. Mindfulness is an imperative skill for navigating the world-for children and adults. This skill is often overlooked in typical curriculum.

Having children begin early to identify their own feelings and learning how to express/calm down/appropriately share those feelings is a skill that will help them all throughout their lives.

My exceptional students attend a Title 1 school, live in a high poverty neighborhoods with limited resources and are considered developmentally delayed, on the Autism Spectrum, intellectually disabled and/or struggle with learning disabilities or physical limitations. They experience things some cannot begin to imagine. Teaching them to handle stress, be aware of their bodies and learn about their brains (which are SO powerful) is a gift you can help with!

My Project

These books will bring to life how to learn about our bodies, minds, brains, empathy, social awareness and the social skills necessary to love and support others in a very chaotic, confusing world.

Many of my exceptional students have limited reading abilities, but read-alouds, role playing and exposure to strategies to help cope with difficult life experiences brought to life in the classroom through these beautiful books will leave a lasting impression.

Through these texts, the students will learn about themselves, each other and how to take care of themselves emotionally in a variety of different situations with a myriad of strategies.
