My Students

The students in our school have little opportunity to be around other kids their age and learn social emotional skills. They spend most of their time indoors or playing with a limited group of kids. We have started an after-school STEM club for Kindergarten through 2nd graders. We know how valuable STEM experiences are for kids; learning to work in a collaborative group to accomplish challenging tasks is a skill our students need to work on. Through STEM, we will be supporting our students in their social and emotional development. We have planned a variety of activities for students including maker space team challenges, teacher workshop where students will learn the basics of new technology, and free explorations. There has been an overwhelming interest in our club and, with the materials that we have, we can only accommodate 40 students. We wish to gather more materials so that we can open the club up to more students.

My Project

Our STEM club has grown so much in the past year. Through amazing donations, we have been able to expand the technology kids are able to use in our after school club. We are starting to think ahead to next year. Our goal is to introduce kids to stop motion animation and green screen technology. These types of projects take more time and will need to be worked on over multiple club meetings.

These iPads and stands will allow our students to collaborate over time to create these bigger projects.

Having iPads that are designated as green screen and stop motion iPads will free up the other iPads that we use for coding and "app smashing". As our club figures out the green screen technology, we plan to incorporate these types of videos into our digital announcements.
