I have been given the opportunity to work with an amazing group of children for the past 8 years. While all of my students have been labeled special needs, the reality is that they are an amazing group of kids who just learn in different ways then what is considered typical.
My students continue to amaze me with their humor, their desire to learn, and through everything, they never give up.
These students require lots of supports to help them learn and thrive in this world. With the amazing people in their life, they are not only succeeding but are surpassing everyone's expectations.
My Project
My kindergarten special ed class is full of fun and creative little minds. My job is to help them learn how to interact with each other and the world.
Using cooperative games, my students are able to learn to work together to achieve a common goal and take turns.
These are skills they will need for the rest of their lives. Cooperative games reduce aggression and increase pro-social skills like sharing and kindness. These are skills that my students need to have a safe space to practice. Cooperative games have been shown to be useful in therapy situations to enhance communication skills of autistic and socially withdrawn children.
