Help me give my students dry erase boards, Hot Dots phonics cards, Hot Dots pens, sand trays, stamp pads, printer ink, cardstock, and sheet protectors to help my students practice phonics skills through hands on games and activities.
My school is rural, Title I school in Tennessee where poverty is high and experiences are limited. I serve 30 children in grades K-5 in an intensive intervention setting. These students are pushed every day to achieve high levels of academic excellence, and they work hard daily to achieve our rigorous expectations. My goal is to get them the necessary materials to help them achieve their greatest potential. These children truly want to learn and work hard in my classroom to be successful students.
My Project
The majority of the requested materials are things that are used on a daily basis in my reading intervention classroom. The dry erase paddle boards and markers will replace ones that are old, scuffed up, and worn out. Stamp pads are something that my students love to use when they are creating words, but our current ones are mostly dried out and black from all of the use that they get.
The Hot Dot pens and cards will be a fun new tool to help my Kindergarten and first grade students who struggle with letters, sounds, and phonemic awareness.
Having sand trays in my classroom all the time will keep me from constantly borrowing them from other teachers and their students.
Printer ink is constantly being used to make games and materials to create fun activities for struggling readers. Page protectors and card stock paper protect our materials to allow multiple classes the ability to use all materials without them constantly tearing.
