Every day our classroom is full of fun, excitement, and eager students ready to learn. We start each day with math workshops where students are collaborating, problem solving, and learning. I would like for my students to have the ability to choose how and where they would like to learn.
Our students come from a large, yet rural military community with a variety of different social and cultural backgrounds.
Many of our students also come from economically disadvantaged homes and will attend several different elementary schools. Even with major obstacles and instability in their way, our students are eager learners and are excited about their future.
My Project
I am currently teaching third grade mathematics. Everyday my students attend math workshop stations. Where they practice a variety of skills. I always encourage my students to write down and solve their math problems as well as write and explanation detailing how they got their answers. As you can imagine the class goes through a lot of scratch paper each year, and I've spent a lot of money on paper. As we completed our unit on pollution in science I asked my students what ways can our classroom help to save the environment. Several of my students mentioned using less paper. They also asked if they could write on the tables more instead of using paper.
