Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class this new school year is filled with many lively students. There are varying needs, from ones who struggle to focus as a result of ADHD which results in difficulties with reading and math, to those who are visionaries at a young age. We are a Title I, free breakfast and lunch school that houses Head Start and PreK-3 through 4th grade.
We strive to be a community that supports each other and have excitement in what we are learning.
I offer different ways to learn through technology, hands-on centers, a library of books, project creating, and group work.
The students are curious about science. They listen, create, and write about their STEM creations. I also use Mystery Doug on the Internet to allow their curiosity to sprout some wings. Learning about our world and its animals and plants is a focus of my science. We are a busy class with much energy that needs to have outlets!
My Project
My students love working in their groups for math or reading while sitting on the floor. These colorful cushions, with the lap desks we already have, will help make their group work more comfortable.
Alternative seating, such as stools and wobble cushions, has been a great improvement in my classroom.
This wobble stool will round out the choices we have been using and give more students the chance on not having their chair for a day.
I am amazed at how the alternate seating has helped all students. Students have become more focused on their work. Behavior problems have been minimized with the new seating.
