Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work for a large urban district which contains thirteen elementary schools and my school is the smallest with about 430 students from prekindergarten to fifth grade. More important, I work for 22 diverse, enthusiastic, and wonderfully brilliant third graders. I work for the community of students, parent, grandparent, relatives, and neighbors who all want the very best for the children of our school. I work for the love of teaching. I enjoy coming up with engaging activities that will not only make my students successful readers, scientists, and mathematicians, but also put a smile on their faces. Seeing them learn, grow, and be happy is why I became a teacher. I give them my very best, because they are so willing to give me their best every time they walk into my classroom.
My Project
The end of the school year can be a tricky time in an elementary school. Teachers are trying to review grade level materials and prepare their students for the next year. Students are daydreaming about summer vacation, swimming by the pool, and playing video games past bedtime. As a teacher, my goal for the end of the year, is to keep my students engaged in learning.
To do this, I am asking for STEAM materials that will keep my students engaged in our end of the year science review.
This year in science my students learned about animal survival. We discussed animal adaptations, habitat destruction, endangerment, and extinction. The magnetic blocks and building bricks I am requesting, along with my own consumable materials, will allow students to build habitats in which animals could safely live in.
Also in third grade, we learned about natural hazards. The building materials and earthquake shaker I am requesting will allow students to build a sturdy structure that will survive natural hazards.
