My Students

I work at a K-8 Title I school located in the heart of Harlem. Our vibrant neighborhood is filled with a rich history. At our school, most students receive free or reduced rate lunch. Although not rich in resources, my students are the most amazing, passionate, curious thinkers, builders, and explorers. They are learning and growing every day. They enjoy learning, and have a desire to learn, even from home! They motivate me and enrich my passion for teaching. In an effort to close the achievement gap, I would like to obtain resources to enhance learning opportunities whether we are in school or at home.

My Project

Read, Read, Read, and read some more! Students in the third grade have been learning remotely and have been engaged with the reading of books in the Dyamonde Daniel series. They absolutely LOVE this series by Nicki Grimes who has a character who lives in NYC and is in third grade just like them.

With learning from home requiring lots of screen time, I would like to place a book into the hands of my students.

With their love for this series, my hope is to have students continue their love for physical books with this project.
