My Students

My 3rd grade students go to a wonderfully diverse and collaborative public school in Brooklyn, New York. Our school works hard to help our students become problem solvers, creative thinkers, and socially responsible citizens of their community and the world.

My students are avid readers of chapter books and they love engaging in incredibly rich discussions about their reading!

I would love to have more biographies and books about history for my students in order to keep this amazing work alive all year!

My Project

There's no better way to connect children to the past than through the remarkable stories of those that lived through it and helped shape it! My students have come alive while studying black history. I want to build upon this excitement by exposing them to more biographies and books about history!

My students have become fascinated by reading biographies and learning about the lives of others.

We would love more biographies about different important history figures to enhance our non-fiction classroom library. We lack the resources for my students to experience the true stories of others' lives in their own independent reading. In addition to learning a great deal of important information about history, my students are also making valuable connections between the past and life today. They are thinking critically about human rights and the ways in which society has changed over years. My students are wonderfully excited learners who have always been eager to learn about the world around them. Now they want to connect to the voices of the past. Having access to these books will allow them to do just that!

Not only will these biographies and books about the past help teach my students about the history of our country, but they will also make them more socially aware and therefore contribute to their development as future citizens of our country and the world!
