My Project
Gardening helps science "come alive" with hands on learning and teaches them respect for nature. It also supports the development of communication skills, responsibility, and teamwork. Students also learn to monitor and manage their emotions while practicing empathy toward themselves and others when they work together in social situations with their peers.
Butterflies are not only beautiful creatures, they are important pollinators in our planet's ecosystem.
My students were sad to hear that Monarch butterflies are endangered and are eager to help them. The books are a wonderful way to encourage kids to learn more about caterpillars and butterflies. The butterfly pencils will get them excited to journal about their observations in the garden. The propagation station will be used in the classroom to actively monitor root development of plants before transplanting them into the garden. Students who engage in school gardens show significant gains in overall grade point average, specifically in math and science. They are very excited to become butterfly conservationists.
