My Students

I teach at a Title I school in west Harlem. Many of the students receive free lunch. Our students come from various cultural backgrounds, and have various learning needs. Our class is unique since it is an ICT (Integrated co-teaching) class. Our class includes general education students, as well as students with special needs that have special education plans to help them learn and meet the state education standards. 3/4 of the students in our class this year are reading below grade level, and need extra literacy support. In 3rd grade we also have a Spanish Dual Language class, in which students continue to learn curriculum, as well as the Spanish language. We also have a general education class with many students of various cultural backgrounds and learning needs. All of our 3rd graders will benefit from this amazing experience!

My Project

The students in our school come from many cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Many of our students have not traveled very far beyond their neighborhood, and have no idea what an amazing world is out there! We are fortunate enough to be able to continue our 3rd grade partnership with the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk, CT. The aquarium will be coming to our school to do squid dissections in our classrooms with students. They will also be taking them on a trip to the beach, during which the students will explore the coastline, and the animals that have amazing adaptations that live there!

As a culminating project in our partnership, the students will actually be going to visit the Maritime Aquarium in Connecticut!

They will go on a Marine Life Study Cruise boat, and explore the creatures that live in Long Island Sound. They will also be able to touch sharks, rays, and jellyfish in the interactive exhibits. The students are so excited! They cannot wait to see what adventures and amazing experiences await them there!
