Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is a full spectrum of learners. There are students who speak English as a first language, whose parents are college educated and have a career. Unfortunately, that is not the norm. Our school is a Title 1 school and over 90% of our students are on free or reduced lunch. I have students that read on a Kindergarten level trying to comprehend a math word problem at a 3rd grade level. Many of my students are new to the United States. I have many students whose first language is not English, who come from broken homes, whose parents work 2 or 3 jobs and are not home at night to help with homework. Because of these limitations, many of my students lack the necessary technology to keep up with the way the world is going.

Even with these challenges, my classroom is always a flurry of activity.

We are constantly learning and doing everything we can to help these kids get as far as they can. The students know what I expect of them from day one, and that is they must always try and they must always know how important their education is.

My Project

My students will benefit from all the items I have selected. Some more directly than others but they are all for the benefit of the students.

In 3rd grade we begin learning about the parts of the body and how they work together, imagine the students being able to 3D print their own human body model!

We also do a lot of geometry and measurement in Math and I would love for them to print out their own 3-dimensional shapes. The 3D printer and the 7 filament refills are so that they can be a step ahead before they even get into the upper grade levels! I would love for them to learn and discover how to print and be able to, by the end of the year, print them selves.

The HP Printer is so I can print and scan all the things that come along with running a 3rd grade class. I like them to make PowerPoint Presentations throughout the year and I would love to be able to scan in their own pictures to use in the Presentations. The keyboard is so that I can give notes on the promethean board the school has but while still being able to move around the classroom.

I requested the headphone with microphone attached because as more and more of the school day is spent using technology, more and more students need their own headphones and the English language learners will be able to speak back using the microphone to practice their pronunciation.

The 10-port USB charging station is to help us organize our classroom iPads and make sure they all get a "good night charge."
