This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are prospective scientists, engineers, and mathematicians. We are a high-poverty school district located in Palm Springs, California. Our school has a high population of students on Free-and-Reduced Lunch, English Learners, and GATE students. These students cannot afford hands-on technology like these donations provide. My students are very grateful for any donations they receive and are very excited at the idea of using hands-on technology to supplement their learning.

The laptop being donated will supplement our recently donated bank of 4 3D printers made by FlashForge.

My Project

Students will use the Macbook laptop to supplement our library's iMac computers to design and print models and objects using our recently donated (via DonorsChoose.org) bank of 4 3D printers. The Macbook laptop will provide portability between the classroom, library, Business Academy, and printing room.

The printers will be used to design and print architectural models fit to scale certain buildings, monuments, and landmarks in the local Palm Springs area.

Students will use trigonometry to verify the measurements. This semester-long project will help students engage in the real world application of mathematics and architectural design.

Students in the 3D printing club will also design and print objects using the portable laptop provided by this funding. The objects include school logos, variations of our mascot, and other accessories. The 3D printing club will take requests from other clubs and sports teams to produce objects to help fundraise their respective programs. Our plan is to partner with our business academy, entitled Money, Marketing, and Management (MMM) to handle the business end of the fundraisers.
