My students are energetic, passionate, and involved in the classroom discussions and activities. They are asking questions that usually turn our 1-day lesson into a two or three day lesson because they really want the meat of the topic. They want to know why, how, and where it works in relation to the real world and will absorb as much of it as possible.
My Project
As a math teacher, my class could often use specific models for hands on experience, and often times, I can not provide them, nor can they make them. With a 3d printer, my students will be able to learn how important ratios and scales are for constructing scale models from a hands on perspective. Certain examples for area and volume include: composite shapes, spheres, arches, and complex models like houses, and landmarks. We can also construct tools like rulers, protractors, and other mathematical tools and frames to use as needed.
By receiving a 3d printer, my students can build specific models to better reach visual learners and hands on learners on normally paper taught lessons like volume and ratios.
They can learn how dimensions and scales are used as models for real world construction. This will also allow for the specific construction of class models and instruments to be constructed specifically for the use of each lesson.
