I am extremely lucky to get to spend my days with a class of remarkable 3rd graders. Everyday we challenge each other to do our best. I try to challenge them with lessons that are exciting and engaging. Then, I challenge them to explore, question and engage themselves in something new. I am always looking for more exciting, hands-on ways to teach geography. I would like to give my students the opportunity to create molds of the United States, World and different landforms. Students will be able to paint and label their molds as a fun way to learn about geography. Molding kits and paint is just what we need. Students will press dough into the mold and wait for it to dry. Then students will have an imprinted surface that they can explore. They will paint the different parts. Then with toothpicks and paper, they will label each country, state or landform, depending on the lesson and mold we are working on at the time. The hands-on aspect of these activities will engage students so much more than basic paper and pencils. The physical activity will keep even my most energetic students engaged. In addition to geography, students will also learn about measurement as we create the dough needed for molding. We appreciate your helping us continue to challenge ourselves.
