Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Too much of the abstract and my students are lost. I need to make my teaching hands on and concrete to make learning accessible and fun.

My students come from a mostly lower socioeconomic demographic, and many do not speak English at home.

Most of the students qualify for a free lunch, have limited resources at home, and stay at school until the early evening because of their hard working parents who are trying to make it. Our school does its best to inspire the kids and bring the curriculum to life. But the challenges of limited budgets and language barriers make that mission difficult.

My Project

The majority of my students are visual and tactile learners. Consequently, they need concepts to come to life in order to comprehend. Their learning has been in the abstract and I need to shift it to the concrete. This MakerBot Academy 3D printer is the clear answer to our learning challenges and an incredible tool to take my visual learners in to real world skills like animation and design! I foresee science lessons breathing fresh vigor and energy into our learning day with students creating models of body systems, plant parts, cell structure, and an infinite amount of other science applications. In addition, the physical models can serve as a precursor to visual arts lessons examining depth, volume, shading, and form.

The prospect of having this MakerBot 3D printer in my classroom is very exciting.

I have introduced this revolutionary piece of technology to my students and they have begun to devise learning applications for it immediately. "We can't wait!" they exclaimed.
