Bringing Art into our Interactive Science Notebooks
Help me give my students glue, pencils, markers, pencil sharpeners and tape that they need for their various projects and interactive science journals.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students live in a high poverty area. The vast majority of my students are minority students with extremely diverse backgrounds due to the large number of transient students we have. We are a Title I school. Most students cannot afford the basic supplies needed for class.
Most of my students are the first ones in their family to aspire to go to college, which not only affects the student's life but their family's life as well.
Many of my students struggle to connect what they learn in the classroom to real-world events going on around them. I want to use resources to not only help my students build tolerance and acceptance but to also build a small community within our school.
My Project
My students learn best from creative, colored drawings that they draw in their interactive science notebooks. They need colored pencils and markers to be able to color coordinate their notes as well as to bring attention to their illustrations. They need tape and glue to be able to make foldable that they often include in their interactive science journals. They also need pencil sharpeners to keep their pencils writing all the. Helpful notes they take in class.
My students learn best when they are given the freedom to incorporate art into their interactive science journals.
It has been proven that students who incorporate art into their core classes tend to do better academically as well as they are more focused since they are able to release their creative energy. Can you help them tap into their best selves by creating art in their interactive science notebooks?
