Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students need to work in a classroom that is both engaging and inviting. They also need to enjoy being in class. My goal is to create an atmosphere that fosters collaborative and comfortable learning. Students in my classes need small group instruction, hands-on learning, and individualized practice in order to maintain an understanding of their lessons.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds, many of whom go home to empty houses at the end of the day.
They need a class where they can truly feel at home and free to make mistakes and learn to work with others to achieve a common goal. Many of these students struggle in mathematics, and working closely with their peers will not only help foster a sense of learning, but also the buy-in they need in order to be successful in an algebra class.
My Project
360-degree math allows a teacher to facilitate learning while all students are up and actively engaged in solving math problems. By writing on the dry erase posters on the wall, students can work together and the teacher can see everything happening in the classroom. It increases student participation and learning in math.
Students need to get up and move around while they are learning.
With the posterboards, erasers, and markers, students will be able to complete tasks, in small groups, in a safe, effective manner. It is also a method that allows teachers to engage with the students, asking open-ended questions based on small group needs. While students could work on paper, having them write on boards on the wall gives them more ownership to their work and makes it much more visible for the teacher.
