My Students

Students at our school are a diverse group of learners (both economically and racially). All students take an active role in ensuring that our Middle School is a safe, inclusive and equity-promoting space.

All students strive to create high-quality work that is authentic, well-crafted and complex.

In Humanities, students are especially interested in viewing and analyzing history using a critical, multicultural lens.

Students learn best when they are given choice and are engaged in experiential learning. Students are invested in self-reflection and committed to revision.

My Project

This humanities unit (called expeditions at our school) is focused on the historical time period spanning the Civil War until the end Reconstruction. Students are especially interested in approaching history with a critical and multicultural lens, but they need the proper materials in order to do so.

This class set of 35 books will service 4 separate classes and will allow students to take an unconventional approach to learning about the Civil War!

Students will engage in analyzing and responding to the text in discussion and writing during class. The most attractive features of this text are its engaging narrative and its consideration of multiple perspectives.
