This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a school psychologist in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Many of our youngest students come to school excited to learn despite facing these challenges.
My amazing students are eager to learn through play, movement and songs.
In addition to learning their early literacy and math skills, they are taking time to develop socially and emotionally. They are learning to share, take turns, and express their feelings to their friends. We work hard at my school to create a safe learning atmosphere and to help our children learn important skills to cope with the stress they may face in their daily lives.
My Project
The requested materials will be used to create a tutoring program in which middle school students will be trained to work with younger students who are struggling with the development of their early literacy skills. Participating middle school students will feel more connected to their school community and learn the skills needed to be positive role models. The trained middle school students will use letter mats, dry erase boards, CVC word work centers and other materials to help younger struggling students receive additional guided practice in the skills they need to be successful readers.
Middle school students will build their leadership skills while helping our earliest learners blastoff in their mastery of letter names, sounds and sight words.
Your donations will help both older and younger students develop extremely important skills for success in school and their everyday lives. Your donations will help struggling learners receive the targeted practice they need to make progress in their early literacy skills.
