Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a fifth grade special education teacher in a Title I school. We work together each and every day to achieve new goals. My students are visual learners and make the greatest achievements when we can use technology to enhance their educational experience. Through technology I am able to engage students and create a positive learning environment. Through the use of technology, students are willing to become accountable for their own learning.

My students come from various backgrounds and educational opportunities. They have to overcome obstacles each and every day. Many of these students do not have the support at home or the technology at home to enhance their learning so it is essential that each day we strive to achieve these goals in the classroom. It is a wonderful experience working with this high needs population. Watching them succeed each day is truly inspiring.

Due to the current economic situation, school budgets are being cut drastically and there is not enough money to meet the needs of these students. They need a hands-on learning environment. The world around us is built upon the benefits of technology; thus the reason for my need for technology in our classroom.

Students learn through demonstration and hands-on learning. I know that a Flip Ultra Camera will be hugely beneficial to meet the needs of my students. The camera will allow students to work with one another on different projects. It will peek their interests in given project while also enhancing their social skills. We do an immense amount of writing in my classroom which is a serious struggle for my students. Having this technology to help create a final project is going to be a real motivator for my students. My students are going to use these video cameras in many valuable ways from creating movies from real life experiences such as school trips to creating personal narratives and many things in between. Students will be able to monitor their learning while watching themselves and learning these important life skills. This project is very important to me and I know it will help my students.
