Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are bright preschoolers and kindergartners with special needs. They are three to five years old with various disabilities including Autism, Cerebral Palsy, and speech/language delays.
My students are from low-income families and almost all are English language learners.
Some have just arrived in the United States from Mexico with parents who do not speak English. Despite the many challenges they face, they come ready each day to learn and play with the most positive attitudes.
It has been a true blessing to watch my students learn and grow. Their determination and eagerness to learn are what fuels me. These young scholars amaze me every single day with their big hearts! A day in our classroom consists of enthusiasm, energy, and excitement. Every accomplishment, big or small, is celebrated!
My Project
It is never too early to learn about financial literacy! My students are young preschoolers beginning to grasp early math concepts such as more versus less, counting, addition, and number recognition. These are the basic skills they need to master in order to expand their knowledge in financial literacy.
The materials in this project will enhance my students’ math skills through highly engaging and interactive activities.
The number puzzles, giant tracing letters, and stencils will help them with number recognition and counting. The math activity tins, counting maze, and books will help my students match quantity to quality and learn simple addition. The cash register allows them to play with money, purchasing items in exchange for set amount of dollars and coins.
While learning these math concepts, I will be able to teach my students about saving and spending, how money is used to make purchases, and making good choices based on needs and wants.
Thank you for your help and contribution to ensure my students a bright financial future!
