We have adopted school-wide positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS). PBIS emphasizes the establishment of organizational supports and systems that give our personnel the capacity to use effective interventions accurately and successfully.
Our students are a wonderful group of seventh and eighth graders from diverse backgrounds, with over 60% receiving services for free and reduced lunches.
Our students are bright, funny, clever, curious, and show a world of potential, but need your support to be able to reach their full potential.
My Project
Many of my middle school students struggle with the concept of economics and financial literacy. Lectures and worksheets about economics are boring. In an effort to make financial literacy more exciting, I began researching board games that teach financial literacy skills. These games are also quality strategy board games.
Our students love to play board games and games such as Ticket To Ride and Puerto Rico will be perfect to teach financial literacy in a fun and exciting way.
Strategic board games promote learning, unlock thinking skills, and stimulate brain development in children. With the Board Games, I've seen a big improvement in student social interaction and critical thinking. These board games teach economics and financial literacy. I have picked the board games Catan, Power Grid, Ticket to Ride, and Monopoly just to mention a few. Each of these games have a strong economic theme where players are learning economic principles such as buying low and selling high, making efficient use of resources to earn money, and balancing their budgets.
Playing board games allows for students to spend more time interacting and less time in front of electronics.
