3-D Printer

My students need the 3-D printer to make their 3-dimensional designs. It is one thing to print it on paper, but to make it 3-D. It gives a whole new dimension.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students have a lot of pride in their school. There are many different activities that go on inside and outside of the school however STEM is not one of them. Students need to be exposed to these type of activities because they are a growing and developing area in the outside world.

Currently there is a high concentration of students living below the poverty line, about 95%.

The school has a diverse student body, consisting of Latino, African American, and Asian students. The school has activities for students, however there is currently no STEM curriculum or exposure. The students have a lot of pride in their school. There are many different activities that go on inside and outside of the school. The Stem and Technology programs are non existent, and I would like to build one. The school currently has some newer equipment, but one of the items needed for the lab is a 3-D printer. Students need to be exposed to STEM activities and having a 3-D printer will help expose students to engineering, building, and design. This printer will allow us to do that.

My Project

Next school year I will be focusing more teaching on design and fabrication. A major portion of my design and fabrication class will incorporating the use of technology into the process. We will use computers to plan, to design, and to model our creations in both two and three dimensions. My students would like to have a 3D printer so that they can actually fabricate their designs. The ability to fabricate their designs will take the process to a whole new level. There are so many possibilities for which this printer could be used. We could design cell phone cases, or models of race cars. Whatever type of design students create, we could use our 3D printer to take our designs from the abstract to the concrete.

The equipment will enable students to engage in meaningful activities that will highlight and ultimately benefit the school.

Students will be able to express themselves through a different medium and show what they can do.
