My Students

I teach science to about 120 fifth grade scholars at a charter school in the inner city Nashville area. They love science and most say it is their favorite subject. They are creative, curious, and enjoy hands-on activities. My school pushes scholars to be their best in and out of the classroom. My scholars are not afraid of a challenge and they are always pushing themselves to achieve their goals. They love exploring and investigating the world around them and their favorite unit so far this year has been space!

My Project

I have already planned a unit on engineering in which my scholars will be introduced to biomedical engineering. They will be exploring a story about an eagle who was injured while someone was hunting. The eagle's beak was completely shattered and biomedical engineers made a prosthetic for the eagle's face. My scholars will then receive a broken toy and plan, create, and test a prosthetic to repair the toy. Scholars will use the 3-D pens to create the final product of their prosthetic to attach it to the toy. The 3-D pen will be used in other lessons to enhance scholar's learning by building 3-D models!
