Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Right now students view of Social Studies from public education is extremely limited! Starting from a young age students are not given the opportunity to look at history through a multicultural perspective or to be connected to current events in a developmentally appropriate way.

My students come to my class with a huge scope of world history from their family and culture.

In my 21 student class population there are over 5 different languages spoken. They are extremely interested about their own and other people's culture. We are in an urban school where my students can be overloaded with so much information. I would like to help them focus on United States current events through these requested resources such as Time Magazine for kids.

My Project

Furthermore I am requesting a wide range of books all having to do with United States history from a multicultural perspective. It is my hope that through an awareness of history children will become motivated to be an active participant in their own history! They will be involved in their own research as well as learning more about the country that their family recently immigrated to. Through an understanding of history they can create a more peaceful world to become a part of.

History can create an Altruistic Activist!

Through education of history children can become a voice of peace. It is my goal that with these books will give a clearer multicultural picture than the children's mandated social studies curriculum. I have ordered books on a wide variety of subjects from Civil Rights to Human Rights, all written at a developmentally appropriate pace for 2nd grade/3rd grade combination class. Please join this endeavor by donating any amount to my class, Thank you.
