Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

With your help, we would like to acquire 2 books sets for the school library, to be enjoyed by our 200 second and third graders: a 10-book set of 'Pete the Cat' titles and an 8-book set of 'Pinkalicious' stories.

92% of the students who uses our school library are from households with below-average income.

The kids tend to be first-generation Americans whose parents have recently arrived in the U.S. from the Caribbean or from Central or South America. We do not have an affluent PTA that could help us purchase resources for our media center.

My Project

Recently, we polled our second and third grade teachers about the books that they would like us to acquire for their students this school year. The teachers in turn consulted their students, and 'Pinkalicious' and 'Pete the Cat' came out top of the list. Currently, we have just under half the titles in each series, and they're looking a bit bedraggled!

It would be wonderful to be able to offer our 200 second and third graders brand new copies of all the "Pinkalicious' and "Pete the Cat' books.

They love to read, and they get very enthused about reading all the books in a series!

These are not just any books, such as you might get from a conventional book supplier. These titles come from a company that specializes in selling extra sturdy, fully-processed library books. They come barcoded and with electronic records that can be imported into our school computers. The books should last longer, and it will be easy to circulate them among our children!
