My Students

My students currently attend a year-round school in MN. I have 23 vibrant kindergarten students that truly love to come to school. My class has a very diverse set of needs with 1/2 of the students speaking English as a second language and 1/3 of my students receive special education service. Each day is a new adventure in the world of learning. My students come to school to be fed, feel loved and find their place in this world on top of learning how to be a citizen in today’s world. They enjoy the safety of the community we have built.

My Project

My class is in need of hands on math activities during our flex group time! My students math time is broken into three different parts: large group, independent time and calendar. Once all the students have received a large group math lesson they are divided into groups based on their current math level for independent time. Students would benefit from having counting activities, sorting, shape activities, as well as math centered games.

Students will be able to practice basic math skills by having fun and working on social skills within their small group.

Each group would have a chance to work with numbers, shapes, place vale, sorting and patterns with the games and activities that I have requested during their independent time, while I work with a small group of students. Each activity I have requested would be modeled in a small group and then students would be able to work on the center. By having items like sorting and matching a quantity to a number will help

students see math in a visual way and reinforce what the students are learning in large group.
