My Project

My students attend a low-income urban school in Philadelphia.

This paper and sharpener will help ensure that my classroom is fully stocked with learning supplies for over 150 students who will learn history, English, and government.

My students are a multiracial group of students who hail from Black, White, Latino/Hispanic, Middle Eastern, and Asian backgrounds, many of whom will be the first in their families to face the challenges of attending high school, college, and beyond.

They are academic and driven young adults who are determined to reach the heights of achievement in college, despite a series of systemic disparities and barriers of race and class they face every day.

Long-term social change is enacted not by catchy political slogans or through committed educators, but through our youth engaging in school, educating themselves, and maintaining a society built upon the ideals of a multi-racial democracy.

Mr. Okamura W.B. Saul High School - Agri Sciences Grades 9-12
