This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are an inner city school that has been on progress monitoring for the last 3 years . These students face several obstacles with the task of getting to school on a daily base; lack of food and resources, violent homes, single parent home, neighborhood gangs and violence, however they preserve to get to school everyday. These students have the desire to learn but the lack of resources inside and out of the classroom to do so. I believe with proper supplies, these students will feel equipped for success and thus work hard to be successful.
My Project
As my students are being pushed to focus on 21st century skills, consequently my students also need 21st century materials. They currently have a well worn out blackboard also known as a chalkboard. My students are already in a need of basic essentials, and I think that students should not have to do without when it comes to basic school items. A white board in the classroom will limit the amount of collected dust within the classroom as well as give students a more up to date device to use during learning. White board will be used during instruction. Students will have the ability to brainstorm and provide answers on the white board. The board will also provide a place for students to locate learning objectives and homework. The smaller white board will be used in small reading groups for students to review and make notes for learning. I have found it inviting and rewarding for students to sit in "the big chair." Having a comfortable place to sit while working can encourage students to read more. Students will be awarded by being allowed to sit in chairs at desk or anywhere around the room for completing assignments, being on task, exemplifying positive behaviors, having excellent attendance, etc.
