Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are curious and inquisitive seventh and eighth graders at a Title I public school in West Michigan. I see each of them each day for Social Studies, and they are so passionate about learning about the world around them. We work every day to expand our worldview and our understanding of world history so that we can understand how our history impacts our lives today and in the future.

As a first-generation high-school and college graduate, I use stories from my own life and experiences to relate to my scholars.

Our classroom is a peaceful place where we work to meet the needs of every scholar. In order to accomplish this, I'd love to update our classroom with some modern tech tools and other items that will help students gain 21st-century STEM skills, make cross-curricular connections with their learning, and help our classroom run smoothly and efficiently.

In this project, we will outfit our classroom with a rolling laptop desk that will allow us to take our learning outside of the classroom, into other learning spaces within the building and even outside on our beautiful campus when weather permits. The interactive whiteboard system will allow us to improve existing classroom tech to project classroom materials and interact with them. This is especially important as we connect history to our modern daily lives! The drawing tablet can also be used with the interactive whiteboard.

I'd like to add some resources that support student mental health, such as positive affirmation wall art and mental health resources from the website Teachers Pay Teachers, as well as a book about restorative justice.

Finally, I'd like to add items that will help us implement the tech and metal health tools with fidelity and efficiency, such as a paper turn-in organizer and staple remover.
