This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is a safe place in which each child has his/her own unique personality, strengths, weaknesses, and diverse background knowledge. Even though my school is one of the oldest in the city with 116 years of service, it has always been a leading pioneer implementing high quality educational programs such as the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme for the children in the community. My classroom is a community where we treat each other with respect and we help each other out. What better way to demonstrate the importance of this than to show how our community -and people around us- are wiling to help further their knowledge and educations. My students are learning how to be inquirers, independent, knowledgeable and above all caring not only about themselves but are also learning to live in the world around them. As an I.B. World classroom, a day in my Pre-K class is full of interesting activities based on the inquiries of 22 four year olds. We are always looking for answers either by researching on the Internet, looking into books, asking one another, performing experiments or simply finding out answers by making graphs, charts etc.

My Project

I will use the two iPads to engage my students with interactive materials such as e-books and read-a-louds, practice letter formation and building words, develop math skills such as counting, tracing numbers, solving simple word problems, drawing and making our own stories. This year our school has also invested in a program called STEM Scopes which stands for (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). This program was designed to enhance a child's understanding of the following content areas at a developmentally appropriate level. I feel that opening an ipad center in which my students have an opportunity to engage in activities like this will promote their interest in STEM.
