My Students

I teach Chemistry to a diverse group of artistic students at a Title I visual and performing arts school in downtown Los Angeles. Students come from all over the city to our public high school to receive a top notch education in both academics and their chosen art form (music, dance, visual arts or theater) and go on to study at some of the top academic colleges and art schools across the country.

I am always looking for ways to motivate my students in my classroom with innovative and exciting learning opportunities.

My Project

For many years, I have pieced together a curriculum that is exciting and engaging to my students, while the district has dragged their heels on proper teacher training. With the introduction of Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), all that is changing. I am excited to bring innovative curriculum to my students that not only provides them scientific background, but focuses on skill and process development so my students can think and act like scientists.

My current laptop is outdated, and this new Macbook will be the missing link in my professional development that will ultimately help my students.

This year I will be participating in over 20 hours of NGSS training. The requested laptop will be used to participate in those trainings, collaborate with peers on curriculum development, and organize my lessons and materials for successful classroom implementation. Thank you for helping me so I can help my students!
